No company should use Australian books, music, art or news to build or train AI without the artist’s control. That includes the artist’s control of the price and value of their work. Anything less, is theft.\n\nThese are words Australian artists and creatives wanted to hear.\n\nProtections will doubtless be included in upcoming legislation, but after rampant marauding of creative material by AI scraper bots in recent years, the move might come too late.\n\nThe proposed laws might protect work created in the future, but what of copyrighted content that has already been copied, and digested, by AI agents?\n\nWill AI companies who used creative work in the past be required to offer retrospective remuneration? Will these entities, many of whom are based outside Australia, be the slightest bit concerned by these proposals?\n\nRELATED CONTENT\n\n[artificial intelligence](https://disassociated.com/tag/artificial-intelligence/), [Australia](https://disassociated.com/tag/australia/), [copyright](https://disassociated.com/tag/copyright/), [politics](https://disassociated.com/tag/politics/), [social media](https://disassociated.com/tag/social-media/), [technology](https://disassociated.com/tag/technology/)", "url": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ai-here-to-stay-accept-it-says-australian-government-vows-artist-copyright", "canonical_source": "https://disassociated.com/ai-here-staying-australian-government-vows-artist-copyright-protection/", "published_at": "2026-07-16 20:30:16+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-07-16 20:41:37.190072+00:00", "lang": "en", "topics": ["artificial-intelligence", "ai-policy", "ai-ethics", "ai-infrastructure"], "entities": ["Anthony Albanese", "Australian government"], "alternates": {"html": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ai-here-to-stay-accept-it-says-australian-government-vows-artist-copyright", "markdown": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ai-here-to-stay-accept-it-says-australian-government-vows-artist-copyright.md", "text": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ai-here-to-stay-accept-it-says-australian-government-vows-artist-copyright.txt", "jsonld": "https://wpnews.pro/news/ai-here-to-stay-accept-it-says-australian-government-vows-artist-copyright.jsonld"}}
