Vietnam is introducing a structured artificial intelligence education programme for school students, with 12 AI lessons to be delivered to each class every academic year under a new framework issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, TV BRICS reports.

According to VNA, the initiative is designed to build students’ AI competencies from an early age and prepare them for a rapidly changing digital economy while placing responsible and ethical use of the technology at the centre of learning.

The framework divides AI education into four core areas: human-centred thinking, AI ethics, AI techniques and applications, and AI system design. Human-centred thinking and ethical principles will underpin the programme, with students learning to consider safety, responsibility and legal requirements when using AI.

The programme covers two broad stages of education. Basic education includes primary and lower secondary schooling, while career-orientated education applies to upper secondary students.

At primary level, pupils will be introduced to simple AI applications and explore how artificial intelligence is used in everyday life. Lessons will also cover basic issues such as personal data protection and copyright.

Lower secondary students will progress to using AI tools to create digital products and solve learning-related problems. They will also study fundamental AI concepts and examine the responsibilities of citizens in an increasingly digital society.

At upper secondary level, students will move towards practical projects, exploring how simple AI systems can be designed, improved and applied to solve problems. The approach is intended to strengthen creativity and problem-solving skills while introducing students to potential careers linked to artificial intelligence.

Earlier, it was reported that President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had declared 2026 as the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence.
