Chat apps are good at reading text you paste in. They are much less reliable at working on actual files: pulling clean Markdown out of a PDF, running OCR on a scan, merging or splitting documents, converting a Word file to PDF, or lifting a table into a spreadsheet. A remote MCP server can fill that gap, because the app calls a tool and gets a real file or structured result back.

Tanod is a hosted MCP server. Its document route, `https://tanod.dev/mcp/docs`, exposes 39 tools and works as a custom connector in claude.ai and ChatGPT. It needs no API key, no account and no OAuth.

`tanod` and paste `https://tanod.dev/mcp/docs`.
On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds it under Organization settings > Connectors, and members then connect it.

`@` and pick it.
Account and workspace policies decide whether you can add custom servers at all. Settings screens change often; the URL and the transport (streamable HTTP, no authentication) are what matter.

The sample files are public, so you can test without uploading anything.

For merge, split or form filling, give the assistant two or more document URLs and say what you want, for example "merge these two PDFs and add page numbers".

Document calls from claude.ai and ChatGPT draw on a shared free pool of 2,000 calls a day. The pool is shared across all connector traffic from those two apps, not per user. Remote connectors are called from the vendors' servers, which share IP ranges, so a per-IP allowance would run out for everyone at once.

That means the pool can run out. When it does, a tool returns a price quote in USDC instead of a result, and nothing is charged unless your client pays it. The per-call price then applies, settled with x402 in USDC on Base or Polygon. Chat apps do not sign x402 payments, so past the pool you would call from an x402-capable client such as the Tanod SDKs. Heavy conversions such as Office to PDF and OCR are priced from USD 0.01 per call when called outside the shared pool. Pricing details are at [https://tanod.dev/pricing/](https://tanod.dev/pricing/).

From the privacy policy: "We do not store request bodies or results, with two exceptions that speed up repeat requests: the address and chain of contracts you ask us to scan, and a fingerprint of scanned packages." Per call, Tanod records the time, endpoint, result status, price and a coarse client type. Server logs include your IP address and are kept for up to 30 days. Free-tier counters are kept per IP address per UTC day. Full text: [https://tanod.dev/privacy/](https://tanod.dev/privacy/)
