This laptop targets a specific audience: amateur (or budding professional) content creators looking for a decently priced, big-screen model for on-the-go work.\n\nIf you tend to type for long stretches, however, one feature—the Swift's giant touchpad, which measures 8.15 inches on the diagonal—might be a deal-breaker. While the pad works with an included stylus for easier note-taking and sketching, it's too easy to swipe by mistake while typing. The Swift 16’s $1,599.99 starting configuration features an Intel Core Ultra X7 358H processor. This CPU has four performance cores, eight efficiency cores, and four low-power efficiency cores, with a peak turbo frequency of 4.8GHz.\n\nAcer follows that up with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 solid-state drive, and a 16:10 OLED touch screen. It's a 16-inch 120Hz panel with a 2,880-by-1,800-pixel native resolution. The configuration I am reviewing here comes in at $1,799.99, and is identical to the starting configuration save for 32GB of RAM over the base model's 16GB. However, this configuration doesn't appear to be available online at the time of writing.\n\nYou'll also find a Best Buy-exclusive configuration for $1,899.99 that takes my review configuration and replaces the processor with the more powerful Core Ultra X9 388H. This processor has the same core configuration as the Core Ultra 7 358H, but it runs at a higher maximum turbo frequency of 5.1GHz.\n\nAll models come with the Intel Arc B390 integrated GPU, which features 12 Xe3 graphics processing cores. The B390 is more powerful than any earlier Intel integrated graphics. However, content creators won’t find the next-level discrete GPU options that they might be looking for in a laptop, and might be better served by a laptop with dedicated graphics hardware, such as the Framework Laptop 16 or the [Samsung Galaxy Book6 Ultra](/laptops/164716/samsung-galaxy-book6-ultra).\n\nIt’s important to note that none of these models is configurable, so if you’re looking for a bit more flexibility when it comes to specs, you’ll need to look elsewhere for now. At the time of writing, you can find the entry-level Swift 16 AI for as little as $1,399.99 on Amazon and at Best Buy, which is a bargain for that Core Ultra X7 chip.\n\n## Design: Thin and Light, With a Bit of Panache\n\nThe Swift features a thin-and-light aluminum chassis that weighs in at just 3.42 pounds, making it one of the lighter 16-inchers I’ve used. Measuring 0.58 by 14 by 9.7 inches (HWD) with the lid shut, this is a much easier laptop to carry around than most of its screen size.\n\nThe model I received for review is a somewhat drab gray with slightly different gray accents that don’t sell me on the device, but this color scheme isn't the one you'll find in stores or online. Instead, you’ll see a much darker gray color with gold accents that looks a lot more eye-catching.\n\n## Display and Audio: Memorable Screen, Forgettable Sound\n\nThe Swift's OLED display leaves little to complain about. Again, it's a 1800p panel that refreshes at up to 120Hz. You can cap the refresh rate at 60Hz for better power efficiency in Acer’s Experience app, and you can toggle a dynamic refresh rate feature in Windows’ advanced display settings. Hence, the faster refresh rate triggers only when you need it, extending your battery life.\n\nWhile Acer promises 100% coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts, the Swift 16 didn't quite hit the latter in our testing. Regardless, it surprised in other ways (more about that later), and this screen is super-crisp and vibrant overall. Note that the display has an extra-glossy finish, so ambient-light reflections are a persistent issue.\n\nThe audio needs improvement in next year's model. While functional for video calls and the occasional YouTube video, the sound from the two downward-firing speakers isn't as effective for watching movies with more nuanced soundscapes. Given the laptop's size, Acer would have been better off finding a way to fit the speakers around the keyboard.\n\n## Keyboard, Touchpad, and Webcam: Does a Pad Need to Be This Big?\n\nSpeaking of the keyboard, the Swift's keys are comfortable to type on, with decent travel. You'll have a 10-key number pad along with the standard keys, which number-crunchers will love. However, this does make the key layout a bit cramped, which contributes to my biggest complaint about this laptop: the enormous touchpad.\n\nOn the one hand, the enlarged touchpad is an excellent feature. It’s surfaced with Corning Gorilla Glass, so it’s super-smooth, and the haptic response gives it a solid, responsive feel. Acer equipped the touchpad with support for Microsoft Pen Protocol 2.5 and a tilt-enabled stylus. The included Acer Active Stylus turns the big pad into a functional writing and sketching surface. This is helpful for digital artists, but know that the number pad shifted the entire keyboard about an inch and a half to the left.\n\nAs a result, if you’re a touch typist, it's almost impossible to avoid resting your palm on the touchpad. Acer's latest touchpad firmware effectively improves its palm detection, but it will never be 100% accurate. Any pressure changes in your wrist or hand from typing have a non-zero chance of registering as a click. Depending on what you’re doing, this unpredictable stray click on the touchpad will either annoy or enrage you, especially if you’re in the middle of writing an important document. Whether this is a deal-breaker is up to you, but for $1,600 (or even $1,300 on sale), you shouldn’t have to put up with this. If you’re a hunt-and-peck typist, however, the pad will be a lot easier to dodge.\n\nNote that this laptop has a touch screen, so you’d *think *the included stylus would work with it, but not so. Acer says the display doesn’t support active styluses, so while some styluses that mimic human touch might trigger a response, I wouldn’t count on it.\n\nMeanwhile, Acer downgraded the webcam from last year’s 1440p resolution to a 1080p IR webcam. If you’re using the webcam for video calls and the like, 1080p is enough, which is where most apps like Zoom or Google Meet cap their video resolutions. You'll also find a physical privacy shutter, which is always a welcome design choice.\n\n## Ports and Connectivity: Everything You Need and More\n\nThe Swift has a decent mix of connections, starting with two Type-C ports, one a [USB4](/components/131470/what-is-usb4-how-the-new-interface-boosts-speeds-supports-screens-and-more) and one a [Thunderbolt 4](/components/131257/what-is-thunderbolt-4-why-this-new-interface-will-matter-in-pcs-in-2021) (both at 40Gbps). Acer augments those with two Type-A USB ports: one supporting the USB 3.2 Gen 1 spec (5Gbps), and the other USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps). The Gen 2 port features always-on power delivery for device charging. You'll also find an HDMI 2.1 output with HDCP support, and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. Finally, Acer includes a microSD card slot for storage expansion.\n\nOn the wireless side, the laptop employs [Wi-Fi 7](/wi-fi-mesh-networking-systems/139609/wi-fi-7-explained-everything-to-know-about-tomorrows-fastest-wireless-spec) connectivity and Bluetooth 5.4, along with Bluetooth LE Audio for streaming to external speakers. This is exactly the level of contemporary (and legacy) connectivity you should expect at this price.\n\n## Performance Testing: A Sprinter and Marathoner in One\n\nTo assess the Acer Swift 16 AI’s overall performance across tasks like productivity and content creation, we’ve compared it with several competing ultraportable laptops to see how it stacks up.\n\nHere, we've pitted the Swift against a high-quality mix of devices you might consider on the basis of either price or use case, starting with the [Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Gen 10 Aura Edition](/laptops/163177/lenovo-yoga-pro-9i-gen-10-aura-edition) ($1,949.99 as tested). Next, we have our $3,029.99 [Dell XPS 16 (2026)](/laptops/164883/dell-xps-16-2026) review configuration, followed by the Framework Laptop 16 ($3,198 as tested). Finally, our $1,299 [Apple MacBook Air 13-inch](/laptops/163800/apple-macbook-air-13-inch-2026-m5) review model rounds out the list; it should perform similarly to the 15-inch model that's a closer match to the Swift in screen size. (We haven't tested that bigger Apple model, thus this surrogate.)\n\n## Productivity and Content Creation Tests\n\nOur primary overall benchmark, UL's PCMark 10, puts a system through its paces in productivity apps ranging from web browsing to word processing and spreadsheet work. Meanwhile, PCMark 10's Full System Drive subtest measures a PC's storage throughput. (Macs don't support these two tests, and so the MacBook Air is missing from those charts below.)\n\nThree more tests we rely on are CPU-centric or processor-intensive: Maxon's Cinebench 2024 uses that company's Cinema 4D engine to render a complex scene; Primate Labs' Geekbench 6.3 Pro simulates popular apps ranging from PDF rendering and speech recognition to machine learning; and we see how long it takes the video transcoder HandBrake 1.8 to convert a 12-minute clip from 4K to 1080p resolution. Finally, workstation maker Puget Systems' PugetBench for Creators rates a PC's image-editing prowess through a variety of automated operations in the seminal photo editor Adobe Photoshop 25.\n\nOverall, the Swift 16 AI outperformed its competition where it matters in our tests: practical applications rather than raw throughput. In PCMark 10, the Swift came out ahead of the pack. However, it had a more modest result for storage speed and raw CPU oomph, while overall breaking even with its PC competitors in the Photoshop benchmark. (The MacBook Air ran away with this test, no surprise.)\n\nSince PCMark 10 simulates and evaluates a broad set of PC applications and use cases, the Swift score speaks well to its everyday performance, while its raw power generally ties with many competing systems.\n\n## Graphics Tests\n\nWe challenge all systems’ graphics with a quintet of animations or gaming simulations from UL's 3DMark test suite. The first two, Wild Life (1440p) and Wild Life Extreme (4K), use the Vulkan graphics API to measure GPU speeds. The next pair, Steel Nomad's regular and Light subtests, focuses on APIs more commonly used for game development to assess gaming geometry and particle effects. Last up, we turn to 3DMark Solar Bay to measure ray-tracing performance.\n\nThe Arc B390 iGPU in the Swift held its own against laptops with integrated graphics, even the MacBook Air's dedicated GPU. However, the XPS 16 traded blows with the Swift for the title of who could draw better performance out of the same hardware. Against the Yoga Pro 9i’s RTX 5050, the Swift came out ahead across the board and edged out the MacBook Air's GPU more often than not, where they could compete. The Framework Laptop 16 blew everything else away with its much stronger RTX 5070 discrete GPU, as expected.\n\nWhile 3D simulations don't tell the whole story, we've [tested the Arc B390 on games](/laptops/162783/i-tested-intels-flagship-panther-lake-laptop-chip-the-graphics-are-the-real-upgrade) already. Together, these results suggest that the Swift 16 AI can handle some mainstream gaming and 3D rendering tasks within reason. It's not a rival to a true gaming laptop, but you can still get your fun on with AAA games if you keep settings modest.\n\n## Battery Life and Display Tests\n\nWe test each laptop's battery life by playing a locally stored 720p video file (the open-source Blender movie [Tears of Steel](https://mango.blender.org)) with display brightness at 50% and audio volume at 100%. We make sure the battery is fully charged before the test, with Wi-Fi and keyboard backlighting turned off.\n\nTo gauge display performance, we use a Datacolor SpyderX Elite monitor calibration sensor and its software to measure a laptop screen's color saturation—what percentage of the sRGB, Adobe RGB, and DCI-P3 color gamuts or palettes the display can show—and its 50% and peak brightness in nits (candelas per square meter).\n\nWith all of that said, the Swift lasted two minutes shy of 19 hours in our video-rundown battery test, almost an hour longer than the MacBook Air, well known for its longevity off the cord. Acer's 16-incher outlasted the XPS 16, too (here, by almost two hours), and the Yoga by close to four hours, placing first overall.\n\nMind you, this isn’t the longest battery life we’ve recorded from an Intel Core Ultra Series 3 laptop by a long shot. That goes to the [MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+](/laptops/164650/msi-prestige-14-flip-ai), with a current record of more than 40 hours of battery life on that test. But Acer's is still a very good result overall for a 16-incher.\n\nAcer rates the Swift's display at 100% coverage of the sRGB and DCI-P3 color gamuts, which are essential for web content, video processing, and other color-critical work. In our testing, the Swift 16 laptop reached 100% of sRGB, but only 93% of P3. This is an impressive and workable result, regardless, more than adequate for casual video editing.\n\nAccording to our metering, the display also covers 96% of the Adobe RGB color gamut, a color space that graphic designers and photographers rely on. That's the best Adobe RGB coverage of any of the laptops in our test group. On the flip side, the Swift was the dimmest of the laptops we tested here, maxing out at 407 nits on max brightness. This isn’t a bad result, and typical of a modern OLED screen. But some brighter OLED panels are showing up nowadays, so here's another area for Acer to focus on in its next Swift 16 update.\n\n## Final Thoughts\n\n# Acer Swift 16 AI (2026) Review: A Great Big-Screen Laptop With One Giant Hurdle\n\nPacking standout everyday performance, long battery life, and a rich 16-inch OLED display, Acer's Swift 16 AI offers tremendous value for creators who don't need discrete graphics.
