0009 – When we become Discoverers Composer John Oestmann released the full open-source code for a terminal-UI music program developed with AI, in which the music itself is generated by a Rust program rather than by AI audio generation. Oestmann said the Rust approach means the piece runs identically each time, works offline, and needs very low compute — enough that an astronaut on the International Space Station could run it today. Oestmann called the release an "oh sh–" moment and said open-sourcing the code will be especially important moving forward. I would call this morning another “oh sh–” moment for me. The above video showcases a terminal-UI program that was developed with AI. The music is created by the Rust program, not AI different from the direct audio generation of some AI platforms . This means that it runs the same way each time, it runs offline, and it runs on very low compute. One of our astronauts in the International Space Station could run this today. It also means that I can actually release the full code as Open Source – this last point, I think, will be especially important moving forwards.… The post 0009 – When we become Discoverers https://johnoestmannmusic.com/0009-when-we-become-discoverers/ appeared first on JOHN OESTMANN MUSIC R+D https://johnoestmannmusic.com .
